7.5' brake kit for yoke driveshaft box
A little help please, I bought the full brake kit to fit into my 1972 998 mini, the gearbox is fitted with a remote gear shift, and yoke type driveshafts.
My question is, what do I do now? The engine and box are out of the vehicle, and going to be striped down, but I can’t figure out how the kit goes together.
Is there something else I should have bought? Does the kit not work for the yoke driveshafts? Should a 1972 motor have a remote gearshift fitted?
Any help greatly appreciated!!

shaking.
could also be piston sticking in caliper or weak return spring in drums but rusty discs would be first thing to suspect. if they dont clean up well just buy new discs and pads easy enouth to fit and if you buy kit on here will only be around 30 pound for kit, blackstuff pads id recomend is you are on budget as good standard pads they produce less brake dust to dirty wheels, greenstuff is what i use these work best when they are warm but still bite well from cold but are about twice the price of black stuff i wouldnt bother will grooved discs as can make braking jurky.

re
there isnt alot to worry about ul need a new top radiator bracket if old engine is 998, the oil breather on rad side of engine may need flattening a bit with hammer to clear fan from old engine. rad should be ok from 998 as it was same 3 core one used on all models but uprated one may avoid overheating in hot summer traffic jams but itsnt esential but give it good flush with tap/hose. late 1275 metro use cable clutch i think 85 should be ok, think its hydralic still. carb need is fine, speedo should read correctly if ur mini is post 1980. brakes if ur mini is pre 84 might be worth upgrading to discs for safety metro brakes can be modifyied to fit so worth holding onto them if metro gets scrapped. the heater hose outlet will need drilling out on 1275 metro just so some water can flow about 10mm drill bit. i think thats pritty much it. buy new engine mounts x2, engine steady mounts x2, water hose gasket, may need new heater hoses/vacume pipes. also if ur mini hasnt got servo brakes u will need a plug to blank servo take off on intake manifold. ul need an engine hoist to get engine out iv done without in past its not worth it, also make sure u connect speedo cable before engine fully in car. water pump on metro will be standard large one and clutch type wont matter. if its pre 1980 mini say il list extra things ul need to do.
ps ur best fit stage one kit at same time as if not ul need a 1990-1991 mini cooper exhaust down pipe which is expensive and rc40 kit which costs nearly as much as stage 1 kit

disk brake conversion and wheel beariongs install procedure
I'm currently converting my front drum brakes to disk brakes. Problem is, disk brake conversion kits in parts and pieces, but do not come with any diagrams or instructions how to put them together. most of it is really straight forward, but I'm not finding any decent explanation of how to install the wheel bearings. Kit also contains a spacer with wheel bearings, but I can't determine where the spacer needs to go. Any ideas?

10' Wheels
they dont fit over the 8.4" discs of the 12" wheeled minis.with exception of one set of alloys from japan that are in the style of mk1 cooper s wheels but have a huge offset to overcome the clearence. this huge offset creates high bearing stresses and also will make stearing heavyier and the stearing more snatchy over bumps. so to do it properly u need fit 7.5" or 7.9" discs. 7.5" discs were originally fitted to mk1-3 cooper s and 1275gt 10" wheel models. buy you can get kits to covert ur discs. vented or non vented. 4 pot or 2 pot. 4 pot vented will be best but depends how much u have to spend. if ur budget is low you can make 7.9" discs using a 1 pot fiesta mk1or2 caliper these apprently work well and a tutorial can be found on you tube. if you buy a kit to convert you car it will costy around £300 you dont reqire the kits with new hubs as yours will be correct. to convert drums to discs you reqire disc hubs(with exception of 7" mk1 cooper brakes that arnt worth bothering with that use the smaller drum brake hubs). as for the wheels you can only get 165mm width tires for road use on 10" wheels. for the beading to sit best it reqires 5-5.1/2" rims widths. 165 tires will fit on 4.5-6" rims tho. use on wider rims has the risk of the tire comming off the rim as it will not sit well. for trackday use wider tires can be obtained if you find the right sources.

For Sale My Kernow Mini and loads of spares
Due to a new baby arriving in the next few weeks which will take all my free time away,i have decided to sell my mini. She started as a 1988 city e but when i bought her she had been made into a rover cooper lookalike which the cooper arches, alloys etc http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...ve/PICT0020.jpg the engine is from a MG metro with the following added : 1.5 high lift rocker set Aldon comp dizzy K & N pancake filter and stub-stack Heavy duty clutch picture of the engine bay can be found here : http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Zulu...uDave/mini3.jpg it has a maniflow manifold and centre exhaust system. The mini had orignally a metro interior which i didnt like so i sourced a set of seats from a 1999 rover cooper which look far better. I have been collecting parts which i want to fit to her but just never had the time and with the new baby that will be even less here is a list of what is in the garage with the mini : Minisport suspension kit Hi/los shocks adjustable tie rods full poly bush kit rear camber brackets. new quick-rack steering rack Refurbished metro 4-pot brake calipers metro 4-pot brake hose kit Minisport sure stop brake kit for normal mini claipers (grooved and drilled discs and performance pads) and braided brake hose set. Metro drive flanges with the wheel locating lugs removed ERA turbo brake caliper bolts for the metro claipers Metro vented discs and performance pads competetion track rod ends front wheel bearing kit for both sides front ball joint kits x2 KAD quickshift the new version that doesnt need a donor stick and has the collar reverse selector 2x front seat anti-tip bars new carpet set and under felt set boxed car alarm spare new water pump ( the present one is fine and doesnt leak) new fuel tank sender the one fitted one goes to half a tank then drops new speedo cable the one fitted recently packed in the overall condition of the car is very good,i do keep it garaged and its only really used at weekends and maybe once during the week. The only place where rust is coming through is 2 places and is very minimal and i will post more pics tomorrow. the interior is very good and has a walnut dash,cd stereo etc she is taxed and MOT til end of december and flew through the last one with no faults !!! The Kernow Flag is just a PVC decal so can be easily removed if a non-cornish buyer is interested. I am very sad to see her go but i would love her to go to someone who has the time to fit all these parts and give her a loving home. feel free to contact me if you would a look or test drive. I am looking for £2500 and would pref to sell as a one lot rather than split

turbo brakes
you will also need new brake hoses as the metro calipers run on a dual system. minispares sell a conversion kit for about 30 quid. might want to take this into account, they are good quality braided items tho, look great on your street racer!

HELP Clutch gone
Exactly right - if the fluids under the car then its the slave thats gone. Its worth trying a repair kit for a couple of pounds before replacing the slave entirely. Make sure you give it a good clean out before fitting the new seals - I give the bore a rub down with very fine wet & dry soaked in brake fluid to remove any surface rust, but as the manual always says - if the bore looks scored or pitted, then youre probably going to have to fit a new slave sooner rather than later.

Rear Disc Conversion
This query seems to come up quite freqently, but I can't imagine why! There are kits to do this, but they are enormously expensive, and you have to ask what benefit you will gain other than saving a few kilos of weight because the rear drums on a mini are more than up to the job. You will be better off investing in lightweight finned drums for the rear, uprated discs and calipers for the front, and then installing a brake bias valve so you can set up the optimum front/rear balance. And all this will still save you hundreds of pounds over the cost of a rear disc conversion kit!

My Cheap First Mini
do u have all roud drums at mo cus i noticed no brake servo. if so when ur racing dont get too close to the back of too many cars or if they brake ur gunna be right in there back. u planning on tuning engine? best get stage 1 kit, 260-270 duration cam, and ported head, that shud give u around the 60-70bhp

retro wheels
yeah either 7.5" discs or minisport do 7.9". then you have a choice of ventilated brakes (these can be used longer before brakes loose there bite so good in hilly areas or racing). and 4 pot calipers, these have 4 pistons pushing 4 pads instead of std 2. if your car is just 998 the 7.5" non vent 2 pot caliper setup is fine. you can get 10" cooper s style wheels from mini speed that go over 8.4" but be warned they have a massive offset so will stick out far and put increased load on your wheel bearing, you will also need wider arches.
his minisport setup ready

minispares also do it but dont think do kit for 8.4" discs to 7.5"
